Shawnee National Forest Ranger Vincent Gonzalez visited the Norris City Library yesterday for the first Summer Reading session. Gonzalez presented a lesson on trees to the twenty or so children in attendance. Then the group went outside to do tree "rubbings" using crayons to rub the tree texture on paper.
There were 15 weekly reading prize winners:
Jonah Allen, Josiah Cruz, Oakley Harper, Liam Johnson, Knox Krikie, Walker Lydick, Jaxon McQuire, Lily Roper, Anniston Rubenacker, Ezra Short, Joelle Short, Owen Sneed, Eva Thomas, Nora Wellen, Emily York.
New this year. In the 1st three weeks, Golden Tickets will be hidden around the library during Summer Reading. Children who find a ticket win a prize from this week's sponsor. The four lucky winners who won a lemonade from DUO are Karson Harper, Ezra Short, Owen Sneed, and Nora Wellen. At the end of Summer Reading, Golden Ticket winners will be entered into a drawing for a backpack with school supplies, a Walmart gift card, and a McDonald's gift card. All photos by Leah Leisure.
