Bond, Brinkley advance to sectionals

October 14, 2015 by Becky Weaver

On Thursday, October 8, Hamilton County hosted the IHSA Class 1A Golf Regional. This match took place at Green Hills Golf Course located in Mt.Vernon, Ill.

This would be an environment that the Fighting Cardinal golfers would not be very familiar with for more than one reason. First, NCOE had not golfed on this course thus far this year, and secondly, this match would consist of 11 teams instead of the normal three or four that they were accustomed to seeing.

Although the surroundings were unusual in numerous ways, some things were not unusual and that would be the top performances put up by the NCOE team. At the end of the day, the Fighting Cardinals would find two of their competitors, Dakota Bond and Andy Brinkley, advancing to Sectionals at Anna on Monday, October 12. Bond was the top NCOE qualifier shooting an 81 while Brinkley followed him in second with a score of 90. Other Fighting Cardinals golfing in this match were Justin Brock, Brandon Skaggs, and Treylan Veach.

NCOE golfed exceptionally well on the day, but found themselves finishing in seventh place. Carmi White County and Hamilton County were dominant as always finishing first and second respectively to advance as a team.

NCOE Golf Team tees off

September 9, 2015 by Becky Weaver

On Friday, August 21, the NCOE High School golf team traveled to McLeansboro to compete in a four team match at the McLeansboro Golf Club. Those taking part in the match were the host Hamilton County Foxes, Goreville Blackcats, NCOE Fighting Cardinals, and the Ziegler-Royalton Tornadoes.

Being the first match of the season for NCOE, one would expect the competitors to be a little nervous and maybe not on top of their game. This, however, was not the case for the Fighting Cardinals. Team members Dakota Bond, Andy Brinkley, Justin Brock, Treylan Veach, and Brandon Skaggs would come together to post scores good enough to come within eight points of second place. Dakota Bond took scoring honors for the Fighting Cardinals.

Hamilton County’s Austin Downen was the medalist for this match.

NCOE Golf keeps improving

September 9, 2015 by Villagers Voice

On Friday, August 28, the NCOE Fighting Cardinal golf team headed to Hardin County to tackle the TTI Golf Club course. This match would be a little different from the previous two, as NCOE would only be competing against two other teams instead of three. The three teams making up the field in this match would be the Eldorado Eagles, host Hardin County Cougars, and the NCOE Fighting Cardinals. [Read more...]

NCOE Golf competes at Hamilton County

September 9, 2015 by Villagers Voice

Tuesday, August 25, found the NCOE High School golf team once again traveling to McLeansboro to compete in another four team match. This time the teams would consist of the Eldorado Eagles, Fairfield Mules, Hamilton County Foxes, and the NCOE Fighting Cardinals.

With one match under their belts, it was no wonder the Fighting Cardinal crew of Dakota Bond, Andy Brinkley, Justin Brock, Treylan Veach, and Brandon Skaggs would do even better than their first time on the course. The five members were able to lower their overall score by 13 strokes. In addition to this accomplishment, Dakota Bond and Justin Brock registered a birdie each.

This 13 stroke improvement allowed the Fighting Cardinals to claim second place in the match behind Hamilton County. Eldorado finished in third place and Fairfield was fourth.

Once again, Hamilton County’s Austin Downen was the top golfer claiming medalist honors
