Plans for the incoming school year at NCOE will come as a shock to your child if he/she is dependent on accessing a cell phone regularly. A new law recently signed by Illinois Governor JB Prizker is putting the kibosh on cell phone use in schools, as well as earbuds and smart watches. The new policy will be instituted this coming school year at NCOE and requires that cell phones be turned off from the opening bell to the closing bell.
Students who arrive at school with their phones will be placing them into pouches for the entire school day. Should they need to make a phone call for some reason during the day, they will have to go to the office and use the school phone. There will be penalties for infractions, says high school Principal Brad Wehlermann. The same rules will apply at the grade school. Student registrations at the high school begin on August 4.
