The Carmi City Council again met at the Farm Bureau building last night. With over 100 people in attendance, all eight commissioners on the council voted to decline the bid from American Water that was opened on July 7th. The council conducted other business and paid bills and then opened the floor for public comment time.
The bid from Illinois American Water made an offer of $10 million to purchase the sewer treatment plant. The company also pledged $21,100,000 in upgrades and improvements over the next five years and is contingent on the City instituting a rate increase to Carmi customers of $15.00 per month. The City has not increased their sewer rates since 2011.
