On April 8, 2026, in the afternoon, the Carmi Police Department was notified by Walmart in Carmi, Ill., of a retail theft incident involving a suspect, Gretchen Cruse, 48 of Carmi, who was still on the scene. Upon arrival, officers took a complaint from Walmart's Asset Protection team regarding the theft.
