Freshmen squads fall to Foxes

February 21, 2018 by Villagers Voice

Coach Jim Tucker and his Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Freshmen basketball team traveled to McLeansboro Monday evening for two games of Freshmen action.

The Freshmen A team did not start out the way they had hoped as they allowed the Foxes 20 first quarter points which found NCOE facing a 14 point deficit following the first stanza. Although the Fighting Cardinals did score one more point in the second quarter than that of the first along with holding the Foxes to three less points they did find themselves heading to the locker room at halftime facing a 24-point deficit.

Second half action witnessed NCOE making some adjustments and hitting the court with a much more aggressive style of play. This style of play proved beneficial for the Fighting Cardinals for they outscored the Foxes 21-17 in the final two quarters of play. Unfortunately, this was not enough to erase the early deficit as NCOE fell by the final score of 54-34.

Bryce Jolley led the Fighting Cardinals with 14 points followed closely by Ty Lane with 11. Others scoring were Brendan Frost five, Nathaniel Wilson three, and Devon Robinson one.

Due to time constraints the second game at the Freshmen level was limited to just two quarters of action. However, the first quarter was very disastrous for the Fighting Cardinals as they quickly fell behind 14-1. NCOE did manage to make a run at the Foxes in the second quarter of action as they went on an 11-3 run but this fell a little shy as the Fighting Cardinals fell 17-12.

Gabe Largent was the leading scorer in this contest with seven points while Wil Sutton added three and Jace Johnson two.
