Primary Election Recap: Highly Anticipated Sheriff’s Race Declared for Jordan Weiss; Low Democrat Turnout Noted

March 26, 2026 by Kathy Sands

The cliff hanging campaign of White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss who faced off against former Carmi PD officer Chris Pollard was finally settled  last week on Tuesday night as Weiss took over in Indian Creek and Enfield Townships by handy margins as well as in some Carmi precincts. The race was closer in other precincts, but in the end, Weiss garnered 1,944 votes (56.14%) to Pollard's 1,547 (43.86%) in the unofficial results. The County will continue to count any late-arriving ballots (last information as of Monday was five ballots had come in) for another week or so, but there are not enough ballots still out to change the final outcome. Later canvass results posted at the County Clerk's website show Sheriff Weiss receiving 1,980 votes. See those numbers here.

Letter to the Editor: Illinoisans Deserve Better than Pritzker’s Policies

February 18, 2026 by Villagers Voice

Submitted by Chula Fleming, Campaign Manager for Angela Evans

JB Pritzker’s State of the State address was nothing more than a reminder of how detached he is from the real issues the people of Illinois face everyday!

Our state is dealing with taxes, taxes and more taxes! Our communities aren't safe and the illegals are more prioritized over the American people he was elected to serve. He consistently wants to blame Pres. Trump for all his own failures. [Read more...]

Primary Election 2026: Two Vie For Regional Superintendent of Schools

February 18, 2026 by Kathy Sands

The Regional Superintendent of Schools position is on the ballot in this year's election as an elected office. Since the fall, Republican candidates for the Regional Office of Education have attended the White County GOP meetings to introduce themselves and speak to voters about their qualifications for the office they seek. The Education office is funded through a combination of local (37.5% according to June 2024 figures), state (40.2% and Federal (22.2) government sources although those proportions can fluctuate from year to year. Nine counties share the local funding. The office handles such mandated services as educator licensure support, professional development, truancy/alternative education oversight, and grant administration for local districts and specific programs like alternative schools or homeless education liaisons. ROE #20 also administers and passes through additional funding to local school districts. (Source: Grok AI). [Read more...]

February 5, 2026 by Kathy Sands

Louisville, IL — Darren Bailey, former State Senator and candidate for Governor, is urging lawmakers to enact recently introduced legislation to opt the state into the federal “No Tax on Tips” policy.

White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss Photos by Kathy Sands

Candidate for White County Sheriff Chris Pollard

The White County Sheriff's race is probably the most highly watched local race on the primary ballot. Most county officials are unopposed in their runs to obtain second terms. County Treasurer Micheal Baxley, County Clerk Kayci Heil, County Supervisor of Assessments Gary Baxley, and White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss are all in their first terms, and seeking second terms. But only Sheriff Jordan Weiss has a challenger in Chris Pollard, former CARMI PD police officer and business owner.

Both candidates for White County Sheriff were asked the same question by The Villagers' Voice.
