In response to a call to the White County Sheriff’s office, Deputy Jordan Weiss went to Hwy. 141 and Epworth road. Upon arrival the Deputy observed a male subject identified as James Mosely of Carmi, standing beside a white Chevrolet vehicle. Mosley told the officer that his child’s mother, Shania Miller, 24 of New Haven, was unresponsive in the vehicle with an empty pill bottle in the passenger seat. [Read more...]
Carmi Woman Found with Meth and Smoking Pipes
White County Sheriff's Deputy George Spencer initiated a traffic stop on CR 700 E, 200 ft south of CR 1100 N. on Monday afternoon after observing Diane Strong, 67 of Carmi, driving a white 2007 Lincoln Town Car where Strong was advised of an active arrest warrant. Clayton Andrew Swanner, 36 of Crossville, entered an open plea of "guilty but mentally ill" today to the offense of First Degree Murder with an agreed sentencing range of 20-45 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The case has been set for a sentencing hearing on January 6, 2021 in front of Judge T. Scott Webb who accepted Swanner’s guilty plea this morning. [Read more...]
Two Fairfield residents walking their dogs last Wednesday called the White County Sheriff’s office, reporting that their dogs had found some small bones in a pile of trash along the road. Sgt. Craig Poole responded to the wooded area along County Road 2550 N., about ½ mile west of Mill Shoals.
White County Sheriff Doug Maier and Deputy Randy Graves also assisted, along with the ISP crime scene unit. It was determined after contacting an anthropologist from SIU that the bones were deer bones.
At 7:34 p.m. on Saturday, White County Dispatch received a call from a female reporting there was a gunshot victim at the Maunie gravel pits, 1750 Co. Rd. 1000 E. WC Deputy sheriffs Scott Cantrell and Jordan Weiss went to the scene and EMS and first Responders were dispatched. [Read more...]
