With the summer months upon us, most would expect to find students enjoying their layoff by being on vacation, catching some rays by the pool, or just hanging out in the air conditioning to stay cool, but this is not the case for Coach Evan Wyllie’s Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Fighting Cardinal Basketball team. Instead of taking it easy and just hanging out, they are putting countless hours in at the gym, preparing for the upcoming 2016- 2017 season.
With the Fighting Cardinals losing six seniors from the 2015-2016 season, Coach Wyllie is working the team hard this summer to fill the vacancies of those departing seniors. In fact, NCOE hosted their own shootout this past Thursday when they welcomed the Gallatin County Hawks along with the Hamilton County Foxes to town for a little hoop action.
The day started with NCOE taking on the Gallatin County Hawks in both Jayvee and Varsity action. At the completion of these contests, it would be the Hawks coming out on top. The Fighting Cardinals would then lie idle for the next contest as the Gallatin County Hawks would go against the Hamilton County Foxes at both levels, and once again, the Hawks would prevail victorious.
Finally, the day wrapped up with NCOE hitting the court for their final game of the day against the Hamilton County Foxes. Both teams were searching for their first victory of the day, and it appeared the Foxes were going to be the one claiming bragging rights as they jumped out to a commanding lead early, but NCOE battled back and held on in the end to claim the win!
