Sheriff Jordan Weiss has asked the Illinois State Police to conduct an independent investigation into possible misconduct involving a White County Correctional Officer.
Early this morning, jail administration conducting a routine review of security cameras saw a Correctional Officer enter the cell of a female inmate late last night. The video appeared to show inappropriate conduct.
The Correctional Officer. a three-year full-time employee of the county. was placed on immediate leave without pay this morning. Sheriff Weiss immediately contacted the Illinois State Police to request an independent investigation.
"The inmates in our jail are under our care," said Sheriff Weiss. "We take their well-being and safety as our highest priority."
