Richardson Auto Sales at 1391 Rte. 45, Enfield, reported that someone damaged a maroon 2003 Model Lincoln LS in their car lot on Friday night. The front window was busted out. The driver's side, hood and top of the vehicle had substantial damage to the paint with deep scratches. The vehicle's windshield had been busted out with a brown bottle suspected to be a beer bottle. The investigation is ongoing.
On Friday, the Sheriff's department received a complaint from Nathan Coston, who is employed by Wayne-White Electric, in reference to a theft and criminal damage to property. Someone used a chain saw to cut down an electric pole owned by the company at 600 E., approximately 1/10 mile north of 650 N. After the pole was cut down, the person cut the copper wire off the meter loop and pulled the wire out. A total of 60 feet of wire was taken. The meter was taken into evidence for fingerprinting.
Another pole was found to be cut down on the property of Joe Rooney at 650 E., 3/10 mile south of 650 N. Again the pole was owned by Wayne-White Electric and the copper wire was removed.
Over the weekend, the Sheriff's Department had four reports of electric poles being cut down with chainsaws in order to steal the copper wire from the meter loop. This is very costly to Wayne-White Electric. In several instances, the lines went to grain bins and are vital to the farming operation. It is also very dangerous. Crimestoppers will offer a $500 reward for any information which leads to an arrest in this matter.
Police make arrests
18-year-old Jacklyn D. Lamont of Enfield was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart. She is charged with retail theft, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia. A 17-year-old female juvenile was also apprehended for retail theft.
66-year-old Mary K. Swears of Omaha is charged with Retail Theft at Walmart. Police say Swears stuffed three shirts in her purse and walked out of the store without paying for them. The theft was reported on Friday.
Kendra Carter of Enfield signed a complaint for criminal damage to property. She owns a property at 209 N. Walnut Street in Carmi.
