The Carmi Rifle Club recently sponsored their annual Brownell’s NRA Day which was open to men, women, and youngsters aged 9 years old and up. The Carmi club is proud to continue Southern Illinois’ rich heritage of firearm ownership and sport shooting.
The event provided a unique opportunity to learn about the importance of firearm safety and to participate in a wide variety of shooting sports.
The day began at 8:30 a.m. with registration, and included firearm safety orientation, instruction in the fastest growing sports in the nation…trap shooting. Shotguns and a steel challenge with .22 target pistols, and bench shooting a wide variety of rifles and centerfire pistols was offered. Participants had an opportunity to shoot paper targets, reactive targets such as spinners, steel plates and tannerite, as well as clay targets. The Carmi Rifle Club, a not-for-profit organization, hosted the event as a community service and provided lunch, hearing and eye protection, as well as all the firearms and ammunition. Activities were supervised by NRA certified instructors, range safety officers, and experienced club members. The event was held at the Carmi Rifle Club at the north edge of Carmi just off Hwy. 1 on County Road 1250 E, which is across the road from Vibracoustic Industries.
