On Tuesday January 29, the NCOE junior high volleyball began their season by welcoming Thompsonville to Price Gym.
The first set was competitive but the cards managed to win 25-22. The second set saw NCOE settle down and they won 25-7. “You have to play before you know how things will work.” Coach Jaclyn Melton said.
Bree Vollman led the scoring with 17 points followed by Jerra Barton with 7. Morgan Bryant had five, Brynn Warren scored 4 and Hollan Everett 2.
Offensively, Everett had 5 kills, with Vollman adding 2 and Miah Scroggins one. Vollman had five assists with Barton and Bryant one each.
Vollman had 2 digs on defense and Everett had 2 blocks.
The 7th grade also began with a win, but it took ‘overtime’ to get the job done. They won 25-13, 10-25, 16-14.
“Even though we struggled, the girls didn’t give up.” Black stated. “We were down 7-12 and Lauren and Gracie served some clutch points.” She added.
Hinsley Everett led the serving with 10 points, and Avery Black and Gracie Allen had 6 each. Elise Hortin had four, Lauren Poole 3 and Mercedes Hise one.
At the net, Hise and Everett had 3 kills apiece, with Mallory Fulkerson and Allen having 2 each. Poole and Black each had one. Poole also had 5 assists and Black four in the setter’s positions, with Everett adding one.
The C team also saw their first action as they played a timed contest against the Tigers.
Karley Bishop led the serving with 5 points, and Olivia Howard had 4. Alivia Zenner and Mallory Hobbs each had 3, with Brianna Raney serving 2. One point each was served by Cadee Humphrey, Alexis Rush, Aaliya Robinson and Jaleigh Sullivan.
Mattie McCarthy and Briley Poole had 3 sets and Zenner had 2. Robinson, Hobbs and Brooklyn Raymer had one each.
Hobbs had 3 good hits with Rush and Raymer each having one.
