Pumpkin Pancakes, Veggie Quesadillas, and Apple Crisp are just a few tasty recipes prepared by area kids the past couple of weeks during University of Illinois Extension’s Illinois Junior Chefs program at New Beginning Church of God in Carmi. Illinois Junior Chefs is a cooking school developed and taught by Illinois Nutrition Education Programs team members through five hands-on lessons. Lessons focus on healthy food choices and important cooking skills that will stick with them for years to come.
Illinois Junior Chefs is a hands-on, interactive program that students love! Students received a certificate and cookbook with all of the recipes and important educational handouts to take home and share with their families.
“The kids are always excited about what they’ve learned and the new skills they’ve acquired in Illinois Junior Chef classes,” said Nancy Hardy, the instructor for both weeks. “They can hardly wait until Friday to get their own cookbook with all the recipes we’ve made that week. They’re ready to go home and make these dishes at home for their families to enjoy!”
