On Feb. 15, 2014, Meagan Healy competed at the state level for the Elks Club “Hoop Shoot” free-throw competition in Decatur, bringing home the 2nd place trophy. In all, there were 9 shooters in the 8-9 year old age division.
During her regular round, she made 19/25 free-throws, which put her in a tie for 1st place with another shooter. During the playoff round, she made 3/5 free-throws, tying once again. During the second playoff round, Meagan made 4/5 free-throws, but it wasn’t enough as her competitor made 5/5 shots. In all, she made 26/35 free-throws, capturing a 2nd place state finish and narrowly missed a chance to advance to Iowa for the Regional competition.
The road to the state competition wasn’t easy, as she captured first-place at the County level (being the top shooter in all age groups), hitting 22/25 free-throws. Then at the District competition, she tied for first place, hitting 20/25 freethrows, then went on to win the playoff round hitting 4/5 shots against two additional competitors, sending her to the State Hoop Shoot in Decatur, Ill.
