Two major discussions marked Wednesday night’s county board meeting. The first was a presentation by a Frontier representative who said the company is looking to extend fiber optic internet service to rural areas of the county. Illinois received a $1.04 billion dollar federal grant to extend into unserved and underserved areas. The representative suggested the county can financially invest in the project and asked for letters of support for the project. Should the board give the nod, Frontier will apply on behalf of the County for the grant and a strategy team will work with the IL broadband office to identify unserved locations. Frontier is required to match 30% of any grant amount.
