Ed Oliver of the Masonic Lodge #718 in Norris City on Tuesday presented two checks totaling $10,000.00 to the local summer sack lunch program, which began on Wednesday this week, offering sack lunches to all children in the area. The Illinois Masonic Children's Assistance Program (IMCAP) is the originator of the assistance.
The umbrella organization that the two sack lunch programs have teamed up with is "We Love White County," headquartered at the former Brown's Feed Store on Fifth St. in Carmi.
Jerica Sneed organizes the Norris City arm of the program. Children can pick up lunches from 11:00 a.m. t0 11:15 a.m. at three different locations: Wild Bunch Athletics, Enfield Methodist Church, and Omaha General Baptist Church in Omaha.
Ashley Elliott heads up the Carmi arm of the program. Pick up places for the same times are: Maunie Park in Maunie, United Methodist Church in Crossville and 404 Seed Station on 5th St. in Carmi (formerly Brown's Feed Store). The sack lunches are passed out at the same time every weekday during the summer.
This is the fourth year that IMCAP and the Norris City Lodge have teamed up to award $10,000.00 to the White County sack lunch program. Elliott said she has used the money to purchase refrigerators needed to store food and a heating cabinet, as well as for food supplies.
