For 55 years, Indian Creek Township officials believed it had an agreement with the Village of Norris City to use the property where the Township’s equipment building stands next to the Beaty ballfield. For 55 years, Linda Bond received and paid the tax bills on that section of land. But it turns out the Township actually did own that piece of land. And because it was never platted at the Assessments office, Linda Bond continued to pay private property taxes on property that was actually shielded from property taxes by virtue of government ownership.
