The Carmi Dist. 5 School Board has passed a resolution to issue bonds in the amount of $11 million and also made a binding provision within the resolution that would leave tax payers on the hook for possibly much more. From their notice: “WHEREAS, if the Pledged Revenues are insufficient to pay the Bonds, ad valorem property taxes upon all taxable property in the District without limitation as to rate or amount are authorized to be extended to pay the principal of and interest on the Bonds:” [Read more...]

I am heartened by the recent efforts of parents in White County to push back on the Carmi-White Co. school board’s actions in mandating masks which usurp parental control of their children’s health choices. It is a difficult position to be caught between parental rights and a Governor that keeps throwing his weight around like a school yard bully. There are currently 51 school districts in the state that have chosen to stand up to the bully and take on the fight. The Carmi-White Co. school board is not one of them, instead they have given in to the bully, but the children pay the price. The board has chosen not to challenge the Governor’s mask mandate for fear of retaliation or loss of funds. [Read more...]
As the state of Illinois is seeing schools all over the state this week stating their new policies for school start up this year, it appears they must be hearing from parents, as school after school announced on Facebook this week that masking would be optional for attendance at school in the 20201-22 year. The Carmi White County School Board took a few actions following their closed session on Tuesday, February 18. The board voted to approve the closed session minutes of the December 16, 2019 and January 21, 2020 regular board meetings. [Read more...]
