A Sangamon County judge last week told attorney Thomas DeVore and his six clients to try again, after dismissing lawsuits that had been filed in six counties, but were being consolidated. The suits challenged Governor JB Pritzker’s authority to impose new and continued restrictions in response to Covid-19 virus infection rates in the parts of Illinois with low infection and death rates. Illinois Governor Pritzker's foray into the state lockdown experiment was declared by 4th Circuit Judge Michael McHaney to have been unlawful since April 8, 2020, in a Clay County courtroom yesterday afternoon.
Judge Michael McHaney agreed with Rep. Darren Bailey's arguments that the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act (IEMAA) only allowed the governor 30 days after the declaration of a disaster/emergency to exercise mostly unlimited powers. One argument advanced by attorney Thomas DeVore was the law's usage of the word "avert" (a disaster). DeVore said the governor was "managing" the COVID-19 pandemic. [Read more...]
Bailey Frustrated by Gov. Budget Proposal for FY21: No Reforms, No Cuts, but Gov. Wants More Money
State Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) made these comments after listening to Gov. JB Pritzker’s second Budget Address on Wednesday:
“There is a real disconnect in the speech versus the reality of how to spend other people’s money. The governor mentioned no reforms or cuts, only increases in spending that would be paid for with new money raised through his progressive income tax scheme.
