In February of this year, the Carmi-White County school board voted to hire Jarrod Newell as the new superintendent of the district after the retirement of Superintendent Brad Lee. Newell was hired pending certification. More than 20 individuals applied for the job, and the district spent $7000 to pay a company to conduct the search. The regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, Carmi-White County Community Unit District No. 5 will be held at the Carmi-White County Junior/Senior High School (Cafeteria) at 7:00p.m. on Monday, May 16. 2022.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, call to order and roll call, the board will conduct the election of permanent officers and continue with the following agenda.
Approximately 40 members of the public attended the Carmi-White County Community Unit District No. 5 regular board meeting on Monday night, April 18. Interest in the hearing was stirred by the recent announcement of the district’s resolution of Intent to sell $11,000,000 in General Obligation School Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source) to Undertake Certain School Facility Improvement Projects. The public hearing on the matter was early in the agenda and the discussion went on for two hours. Board members Kelly Ackerman and Tom Scates were not in attendance. Tom Crabtree, financial representative from Stifel Nicolaus, was also in attendance.

The Carmi-White County CUSD #5 Board of Education will meet tonight, Monday, June 21, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at the Junior/Senior High School cafeteria. Guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) will be followed. This

The Consolidated District Plan is on the agenda as well as a renovation for the High School Science Lab, district insurance renewal, and re-writing the worker's compensation policy. The board member vacancy will be considered in Closed session, along with consideration of the employment of a High School head baseball coach and a building custodian at the Junior/Senior high school. Also expected are updates on the school district's technology, state testing and assessments on District #5 students, and the recent Summer School session.
The Carmi White county School Board closed session on Monday night was dominated by employment decision, mostly for the next school year, but a few were made in order to finish out the the current year.
