Help stop the “Summer Slide”. Children can fall behind an average of 2 months in reading during the summer. Students who read see significantly more gains in reading scores from spring to fall than students without access to books. The public library is an excellent free resource for families. We have material covering a wide range of interests and reading levels. When children select reading materials themselves and read for enjoyment, they receive the most gains in reading achievement. The library Summer Reading Program is over, but that doesn’t mean your summer reading has to end! These hot humid days are a perfect time to sit in a comfy chair with a tall glass of tea and a good book. The library has made some recent changes to the children’s room. We have moved the juvenile non-fiction collection into the juvie room. This will make finding a book on your favorite subject easier than ever. Need help finding a great book this summer? The third week of Summer Reading at the Norris City library is in the history books. Sixteen children attended; Kimberly Scott from Egyptian Health Center read "The Very Impatient Butterfly" to the group followed by a related craft. The children made headbands with stickers.
June 23 is the final day of Summer Reading and a visit from the Rend Lake Rangers is planned for the occasion. The Grand Prize will be awarded next week.
