On Thursday August 5, 2021 beginning at 7:30 a.m., the University of Illinois Dixon Springs Agricultural Center will be kicking off a monthly educational forum which will highlight on-going research conducted at the center and in the agricultural industry. This will be held the first Thursday of each month with various topics covered. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with staff and receive an overview of the current research conducted at Dixon Springs Agricultural Center. University of Illinois Extension is excited to be the host for the second of four twilight meetings at the Local Foods Research and Demonstration area at the Dixon Springs Agricultural Center on Monday, June 21, 2021, starting at 6 p.m. University of Illinois Extension Local Food Systems & Small Farms Educators Bronwyn Aly, Katie Bell, and Nathan Johanning have been partnering with area farms over the past seven years to provide evening “twilight meetings” to highlight and demonstrate diverse farming enterprises across southern Illinois. There are many challenges that farmers have to overcome to be successful each year, according to farmer and State Senator Darren Bailey (R-Louisville). During the last year, farmers saw a new set of challenges in the livestock sector. Agriculture is the leading industry in our state and it is important that proper college credit is given to students who have pursued high school Ag courses, according to State Senator Darren Bailey (R-Louisville). The University of Illinois Extension has scheduled a testing date for its Pesticide Safety Education Program. A session of PSEP testing is set for 9:00 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, February 4 at the Saline County office at 912 S Commercial Street in Harrisburg.
You may register for that testing by calling 618-252-8391. The only charge for testing is the state license fee. University of Illinois Extension does not charge a fee for testing.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) has announced the release of the Cover Crop Premium Discount Program, a cover crop discount program for acreage in Illinois planted to cover crops in the fall of 2019 that will be planted to an insurable crop in 2020.
