White County might be conducting court via zoom, but they are still moving forward. One individual was sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections this morning.
Dakota Goodwin, 25, Carmi was sentenced on a charge of Unlawful Possession of Weapon by Felon, a class 3 felony. He received six years in the Department of Corrections (DOC) and one year of Mandatory Supervised Release (MSR) and costs. Goodwin was also sentenced on a charge of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, a class 4 felony, receiving five years 10 months in DOC and one year MSR.
Goodwin was on probation in the possession of controlled substance case when an investigation and arrest by Carmi Police Department with assistance from the White County Sheriff’s Department determined that he had been in possession of a firearm in September 2020. Consequently, his probation was revoked in that case with a new sentenced entered in it, as well as the sentence entered in the possession of weapon by felon case.
Goodwin was represented by Jonathan Turpin. Judge T. Scott Webb was the presiding judge.
