High school students are taking pre-orders for FCCLA bread week.
The group is preparing, buttermilk pound bread, zucchini, banana, sour cream streusel, and poppy seed breads this year. Pre orders can be picked up on Dec. 16 from 4-8 p.m. and Dec. 19 from 4-6 p.m. in the front lobby at the high school. The breads are small eight ounce loaves that sell for $5.00 each.
Bread Week has been going on since 1995. That first year the classes made 100 loaves of bread and thought they had done something really great. Now the classes make close to 3000. Five ovens run continuously for five days at the high school. The money earned from the fund raiser goes to fund student events of the FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America).
When the project first started in 1995, the class made 10 varieties of bread. That was quite an undertaking, so they cut back to five varieties.
