Lige K. Cheek, 50 of Enfield, was arrested by White County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Brown yesterday at Burrell Street and Martin Drive in Carmi after the Deputy Brown observed a black 2010 Chevrolet Equinox traveling eastbound on Oak St. that failed to signal when turning left onto Burrell. Deputy Brown initiated a traffic stop and found that the vehicle registration was suspended for a non-insurance violation. A Carmi officer joined in the stop.
Lige Cheek was asked to exit the vehicle and was searched for weapons. None were located. The suspended registration meant the the vehicle would be towed. An inventory of the vehicle turned up a bottle with crystal like substance in the bottom, believed to be methamphetamine. A field test kit showed a positive result. Cheek became very upset when officers went to cuff him. He was taken to White County Jail and the vehicle was impounded.
Cheek was cited for Failure to Signal when Required, Operating Motor Vehicle with Suspended Registration-Mandatory Insurance Violation, Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine and Unlawful Use of Property.
