In February of this year, the Carmi-White County school board voted to hire Jarrod Newell as the new superintendent of the district after the retirement of Superintendent Brad Lee. Newell was hired pending certification. More than 20 individuals applied for the job, and the district spent $7000 to pay a company to conduct the search. There were already-certified people who also applied for the job.
