Rep. Darren Bailey has filed a Petition for Adjudication of Indirect Civil Contempt this morning against Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker in Sangamon County Circuit Court, after Sangamon County Circuit Court Judge Raylene Grischow on Monday refused to vacate the July 2nd ruling of Clay County Circuit Judge Michael McHaney. (see here). That ruling states that the Governor overstepped his authority when he issued executive orders related to Covid-19 after April 8, in violation of the Illinois Emergency Management Act which gave the governor 30 days of exclusive authority subsequent to declaring the disaster. Judge Michael McHaney ruled the governor's orders after April 8 to be "void ab initio." However, the Governor has continued to issue executive orders without input from the Assembly.
