The Norris City-Omaha-Enfield 5th/6th Grade Junior Cardinal basketball teams went back to work Thursday evening when they welcomed the Crab Orchard Trojans to town. The sixth grade squad started out strong against the Trojans in the first half of play as they found themselves only trailing by three points, 19-16, when halftime arrived.
Second half action was as the Trojans came alive on the offensive end and erupted for 35 points. This offensive explosion allowed Crab Orchard to outscore the Jr. Cards by 21 points en route to handing NCOE the 54-30 defeat.
Bryer Sauls had a monstrous game for the Jr. Cards as he scored 20 points to lead the way. Others scoring in the game were Max Riggs with six points and Kade Bond with four points.
Fifth grade action started out a little better for NCOE as they jumped out to the 8-7 advantage following one quarter of play. The Jr. Cards would stay strong in the second quarter and outscore their opponent 8-4 to extend their lead to 16-11 as halftime arrived.
Following intermission, both teams would play dead even in the third quarter as each would add six more points to their totals. With one quarter remaining, Crab Orchard found their rhythm on the offensive end as they put forth their best effort of 10 points. Luckily the Jr. Cards had enough left in them to score six more points to hang on to collect the thrilling 28-27 victory.
The leading scorer for the fifth grade squad was Max Riggs with 23 points followed by Caden Sexton with three points and Javen Garrett two points.
