NEW BOOKS: “Lilac Lane” by Sherryl Woods. When her fiancé suffers a fatal heart attack, Keira Malone moves from Dublin to Chesapeake Shores, MD to help her children run an Irish pub. With the promise of family ties and a job at O’Brien’s, her son-in-law’s Irish pub, she takes what seems like the biggest risk of her life. As it turns out, though, crossing the ocean is nothing compared to moving into a charming cottage on Lilac Lane, right next door to Bryan Laramie, the moody chef at O’Brien’s. Their kitchen wars quickly become the stuff of legends in Chesapeake Shores, and the town’s matchmakers conclude where there’s heat, there’s sure to be passion.
“Every Breath You Take” by Mary Higgins Clark. Laurie Moran’s television show Under Suspicion is a hit, both in the ratings and its record of solving cold cases. Three years ago, Virginia Wakeling was found in the snow, after being thrown from the roof of the Metropolitan Museum on the night of its most celebrated fundraiser, the Met Gala. The leading suspect then and now is her much younger boyfriend and personal trainer, Ivan Gray. Laurie’s skepticism about the case is upended by a tip from her father’s NYPD connection, and soon Laurie realizes there are a bevy of suspects— including Virginia’s trusted inner circle. As the Under Suspicion crew pries into the lives of a super wealthy real estate family with secrets to hide, danger mounts for several witnesses—and for Laurie.
“A Simple Vow” by Charlotte Hubbard. The Simple Gifts crafts shop celebrates the talents of the Amish of Willow Ridge and the faith that inspires them. As far as Edith Riehl is concerned, the baby twins thrust suddenly into her arms are a heaven-sent gift. Unable to conceive, she longs to be a mother with a home of her own. She’s going to abide by her promise to handsome Asa Detweiler to take care of them while he looks for their real father. And even if her domineering dat Cornelius refuses to countenance Asa’s suit, she can only pray that the bachelor’s honesty and persistence will uncover the truth.
“Mind Game” by Iris Johansen. (An Eve Duncan novel) Jane MacGuire heads back to Scotland where she continues her search for the treasure she’s been chasing for years. But now she’s being plagued by dreams of a girl in danger. Who is this girl, and what is she trying to tell Jane? And will Jane figure it out before it’s too late — for her and the mysterious young woman? Things are further complicated when Seth Caleb comes back into Jane’s life. This time he’s the one in trouble, and Jane will find herself pulled unexpectedly into his world as she fights to save him.
