It’s Summer Reading time. Come and have fun at the library!!! Join us for “Showtime at Your Library” every Wednesday in June at 1:00 p.m. for stories, prizes, and more!
This Wednesday, June 12 will be presented by the Rend Lake Park Rangers. They plan to expose the animal myths found in movies. Don’t miss this fun program as they will bring some of their animal friends with them!!! This year, for every five library books children enter into their reading log, they can choose a prize from the treasure box and enter the grand prize drawing. The more you read, the more you can win.
Join us next week on June 19 when our guest presenter will be Milly Pate. Adults, we have something for you this year as well. Sign up for a library card or check out items during the months of June and July, and you can enter to win a Kindle Fire 7 with Alexa. Feel free to call the library @ 618-378-3713 or visit our Facebook page for more information. To celebrate Summer Reading, this week’s new books are all children’s books.
“Star Wars: Jedi Academy” by Jeff Brown. Roan’s one dream is to leave home and attend Pilot Academy like his older brother, father, and grandfather. But just as Roan is mysteriously denied entrance to Pilot School, he is invited to attend Jedi Academy--a school that he didn’t apply to and only recruits children when they are just a few years old. That is, until now. Under the tutelage of Master Yoda, he learns that he possesses more strength and potential than he could have ever dreamed. Oh, and he learns other important things too--like how to make a baking soda volcano, fence with a lightsaber, slow dance with a girl, and lift boulders with the Force.
“Stick Dog”by Tom Watson. When Stick Dog gets a whiff of hamburgers grilling at Picasso Park, he knows he has to get one. Along with his stray dog friends – A Dalmatian named Stripes, a Dachshund named Karen, a mutt named Mutt and a Poodle named Poo-Poo – Stick Dog embarks on an epic quest to snatch those fantastic-smelling burgers. It’s not an easy task. On the way, Poo-Poo gets attacked by a squirrel, Karen gets lost and Stripes becomes convinced that the family at the park is really a band of super-warrior humans. What they need is a plan – but Stick Dog’s friends are, umm, not very good at coming up with realistic burger-snatching strategies. Using teamwork, patience and skill, the question is this: Will Stick Dog guide them safely to a delicious dinner?

On the perfect beach? Could a sea monster really ruin this vacation for the Princess in Black?
