Area veterans were recognized Thursday at NCOE High School in Norris City with a morning breakfast for veterans and their families, followed by a school assembly program. Southeastern Illinois College will welcome and honor local veterans at the Veterans Recognition Ceremony Thursday, Nov. 10. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in the George T. Due to COVID, the traditional Veteran's Day ceremony was not held at Southeastern Illinois College. Instead, the 2019 ceremony pictures were run on the TV monitor for the entire month of November. Included are the pictures with the Michael Hillegas DAR regent at the podium with members seated at the right, as well as Veterans that were honored that day with certificates from the DAR chapter. The chapter had also laid the DAR Wreath of Remembrance.

Veterans' Day is once again upon us as November 11 arrives this week. The Carmi VFW, American Legion and the Wabash Chapter NSDAR are collaborating to host the Veterans' Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Carmi, beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The ceremony will commemorate the sacrifices that veterans of U.S. fighting forces have made to keep the country free.
