Janet R. Baumgart, 76, of New Haven, passed away on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. She was born in Evansville, IN on February 22, 1945 the daughter of George and Elvera (Titzer) Hillenbrand. Janet married Robert Baumgart on August 10, 1963. She was a farm wife and member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, IN. A theft at the Mary 1 oil lease belonging to Schofield Oil company out of Evansville, Ind. was reported on Wednesday to the White County Sheriff's Department. The lease is located on County Road 355 N. in Heralds Prairie Township west of Union Ridge Church. Donald Douthitt of Carmi, who pumps the lease, reported the the theft. According to the report, the suspects opened the line on the stock tank and drained 110 barrels of oil from the tank and then stole two brass valves from the handles on the tanks. The oil was contained inside the firewall surrounding the tank. Douthitt advised White County Deputies that he had contacted the state about the leak. The officers noted that Union Ridge Church also reported a break in at their storage buildings for the cemetery equipment.
The White County Sheriff's Office made two arrests yesterday in connection with two oilfield thefts and a burglary at Union Ridge Cemetery.
Sgt Craig Poole was following up with investigation of the burglary at Union Ridge Cemetery when a Crime Stopper tip led the investigation to New Haven in Gallatin County. Sgt Pool met with Sheriff Doug Maier and Gallatin County Sheriff Shannon Bradley.
