The NCOE board of education held a lengthy discussion on curriculum last night. Principal Carla Carter talked about the two curriculums and their testing schedules. Carter said she prefers the program that tests three times in a school year, which gives the faculty the opportunity to see the students' improvement within that school year. She reported they have seen amazing improvements, as much as 20%, in reading amoung kindergartners using this testing program. The teachers are also seeing greatly improved math skills. Win for the Kids, Village/District Agreement Gets Final Nod from NCOE Board

Norris City Chief of Police Dustin Dale was in attendance at the December NCOE board meeting last night to speak to the board about the new intergovernmental agreement between the school district and the Village. The two NCPD officers who are being assigned to monitor at the schools were also in attendance as was Mayor Skip Land who said Chief Dale is the one putting the plan together.

FCCLA “Bread Week” Pickup on December 16
High school students are taking pre-orders for FCCLA bread week.
The group is preparing, buttermilk pound bread, zucchini, banana, sour cream streusel, and poppy seed breads this year. Pre orders can be picked up on Dec. 16 from 4-8 p.m. and Dec. 19 from 4-6 p.m. in the front lobby at the high school. The breads are small eight ounce loaves that sell for $5.00 each. [Read more...]
NCOE School District on Yellow Alert Tuesday, Parents Applaud Results of Upgraded Plan
The meeting room at the NCOE Superintendent’s office was full again last night at the November meeting of the board as parents and teachers met with the board for a second time, this after a “yellow alert” occurred in the district on Tuesday. The yellow alert was an addition to the existing safety plan of the district and most parents were unaware of exactly what that meant. [Read more...]

NCOE School Assembly Pays Tribute to American Veterans

Dennis Bridgeman and Jim Mills represent Carmi 224 American Legion in the Color Guard at Thursday's NCOE High School Assembly recognizing American veterans.
Area veterans were recognized Thursday at NCOE High School in Norris City with a morning breakfast for veterans and their families, followed by a school assembly program. The Color Guard was represented by the Carmi American Legion 224 with Dennis Bridgeman and Jim Mills, both veterans, and the Carmi VFW Post 3851, represented by Andy Willis and Micheal Baxley.
