Biggest point of contention...teachers and students required to wear masks
New state rules governing this year’s transition to back-to-school learning are proving to be quite a challenge to leaders in the Unit #3 school district.
“The state is encouraging students to return to school for personal instruction, but the guidelines are onerous,” Superintendent Matt Vollman stated. “I am committed to doing everything in my ability to return for personal instruction and maintaining guidelines for health and safety as much as possible. The guidelines say every teacher and student MUST wear a face mask/shield, unless it impairs their breathing. They also recommend punishment if a child refuses. Superintendent Matt Vollman at the May meeting of the NCOE Unit#3 School board said the district is planning for more than one possibility for how students may return to learning in the fall.
