White County Locals Welcome Honor Flight Home

White County residents Patrick Haskell and Edward Oliver were on hand to greet Donnie Seitz home as he returned from a recent Honor Flight. They gave him a special tribute. Fran Matheny of White County was also there to welcome all the veterans back.  After a long day, the veterans have many happy tears and memories. If anyone is interested in going on the next flight in the fall, they can start signing up now. Carmi resident Jack Lamont is on the list for the next flight.

2021 Honor Flight Returns

Tuesday, September 28, 2021, was a memorable occasion for me as it was for many others from Southern Illinois.

At 8 p.m. on that date, Honor Flight No. 7 arrived at Veterans Airport, west of Marion, Illinois. This was the first Honor Flight from this airport to make the trip to Washington, D. C. since 2019. Twelve World War II veterans who had been scheduled to go to Washington, D. C. died between 2019 and the time of this flight. This Honor Flight had twelve World War II veterans and 75 veterans of the Korean and Viet Nam Wars on it, for a total of 87 veterans. [Read more...]

DAR Makes Donation to the Veterans Honor Flight 06 of Southern Illinois

Michael Hillegas Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Makes Donation to the Veterans Honor Flight 06 of Southern Illinois

Bryan Questelle, Chairman of the Honor Flight Board of Southern Illinois, center, accepts a check from the Michael Hillegas Veteran’s Chairman Shelia Albright (rt.) and Sharon L. Tanner, Regent, (lt.).

This year Veterans Chairman, Shelia Albright, decided to hold a rummage sale to raise funds to help local veterans make the trip to D.C. With the assistance of her Veteran’s Committee, several items were collected, along with other monies donated by DAR Daughters and friends. Their efforts raised $650, that was then donated to the Honor Flight.

The Veterans’ Committee was so excited to learn that their donation this time would be used to fund the guardian for one gentleman from another part of Southern Illinois who has no family. His caregiver's expenses will now be covered and she can also become his guardian on the flight. This is the first time we knew just how much our donation helped a specific veteran. How wonderful! We hope to be at the airport to welcome him home on his return flight on October 1!
