Summer Reading Program at the library has started. While the program is geared for local children to encourage them to read, the library is ”challenging” both children and adults to read this summer. For the adults there will be an summer giveaway of a Kindle Fire 7 with Alexa. The drawing will be held after August 1. If you go to the library’s Facebook page you can check out the info.
On this first week of Summer Reading, Phyllis Wood from Egyptian Health read two stories to 42 children. “Tap the Magic Tree” by Christie Matheson is an interactive story about trees changing with the seasons. Phyllis also read them “The Sunhat” by Jennifer Ward, a story of a girl who loses her bright red hat in the desert and finds that all kinds of critters seek shelter beneath it. Phyllis also had a craft project planned for the group. She dyed pumpkin seeds all different colors and each child got to make a tree by gluing the colored pumpkin seeds to a drawing of a tree.
Twenty three children won prizes this week, but there are three more weeks of stories and prizes. Wednesday, June 12, the Rend Lake Park Rangers are slated to be at the library. Everyone will have to show up to see what animals they bring this year.
On Wednesday, June 19, Milly Pate will be reading stories and Felicia Murray will be hosting on June 26 when the final wrap up party will be held.
