Southeastern Illinois College’s Robert I. Gregg Technology Center, also known as G Building, hosts many of the college’s workforce training courses.
Southeastern Illinois College has received a Noncredit Strategies at Work grant from the Illinois Community College Board to provide workforce training for businesses, employees and community members throughout the region. SIC has also received notice that the program will continue to be funded next year.
The funding supports open-enrollment courses for individuals as well as customized training designed around the needs of a specific business, school, municipality or organization.
Training may be held at SIC’s Harrisburg campus, the Stanford D. Williams Career and Training Center in Carmi, an employer’s workplace or another location convenient for participants.
“This funding gives us an exciting opportunity to respond directly to the needs of our local employers and workforce,” said Lori Cox, SIC Director of Workforce and Community Education. “Whether a business needs training for an entire team or an individual wants to strengthen their skills, we can help develop an option that is practical, convenient and relevant to today’s workplace.”
Training offered through the initiative has included OSHA 10, Accounting Basics, Beginning Excel, butchering, and CPR. An upcoming Women in Welding workshop will be offered Oct. 3.
Additional programs being developed include active shooter response, Cybersecurity 101, Excel with Microsoft Copilot and artificial intelligence for business. Whenever possible, training will lead to an industry-recognized credential or certificate of completion.
Business owners, managers, school administrators, municipal leaders and others are encouraged to contact SIC with their workforce training needs. Requests are not limited to the listed subjects, and customized programs may be developed based on employer and employee needs.
The program serves Saline, Gallatin, Pope, Hardin and White counties. Business owners, managers and community members are encouraged to contact SIC to discuss current or future workforce training needs.
For more information or to request training, contact Cox at 618-252-5400, ext. 2302, orlori.cox@sic.edu.
