As unfortunate as it may be, every season comes to a close. With this finale, several emotions may surface. Some of those being happiness on the achievements accomplished while others may be feelings of disappointment for not reaching the goal that had been set. No matter what be the case, one thing that cannot be changed is the mark in history one has made. A group of Carmi-White County Seniors --Jake Simon, Justice Stubblefield, and Andrew Burnett-- have definitely made their presence known for Bulldog football as far as record books go.
This year, three senior members of the offensive unit for coach Kurt Simon’s 2016 Carmi-White County football team made significant marks in the Bulldog record book. This senior trio consisted of quarterback Jake Simon, wide receiver Justice Stubblefield, and running back Andrew Burnett. This group combined for multiple entries in the team’s record book, which was compiled by the late John Evers.
First, Jake Simon set multiple records throughout his career. That list includes most completions in a season (133 in 2015), most pass attempts in a season (228 in 2015), most completions in a career (257), most attempts in a career (497), most completions in a game (28 in a 2015 game against Hamilton County) and most passing yards in a game (355 in the same game). Simon also tied for the most attempts in a game (36), second for most passing yards in a career (3,623), third for most passing yards in a season (1,694 in 2015) and tied for third for highest completion percentage for a career (51.7).
Teammate Justice Stubblefield set the following records during his career: most receptions in a season (51 in 2015), most receptions in a career (105), most receiving yards in a season (730 in 2015), most receiving yards in a career (1,510) and most receptions in a game (11 in a 2015 game against Hamilton County). Stubblefield also ranks second for most receptions in a season (726 in 2016).
Andrew Burnett collected records of his own by running for over 100 yards in each of the Bulldogs’ first eight games this season. That set a new record for most consecutive 100-plus-yard rushing games and tied the record for the most 100-plusyard rushing games in a season. In addition, Burnett also ranks fourth for most career rushing yards (2,135), is tied for third for most 100-yard rushing games in a career (10), sixth for most rushing yards in a season (1,325 in 2016), tied for 13th for most touchdowns in a season (15 in 2016), 15th for most points in a season (94 in 2016) and 16th for most points in a career (144) and most touchdowns in a career (23).
