The Fighting Cardinal baseball team hit the road Friday afternoon and traveled to Galatia to take on their second Greater Egyptian Conference opponent thus far this week. Once again the offense for both teams got off to a slow start but NCOE got the bats moving in the second inning as they plated two runs to jump to the early 2-0 lead. The Bearcats responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the second inning to knot the contest at 2-all. A four run third inning for the Fighting Cardinals would give them a lead that they would not turn loose. Although they would allow four more runs to their opponent, NCOE would score one in each of the fourth and fifth innings along with three in the seventh to cruise to the 11-6 victory.
Trey Simmons and Houston Money topped all Fighting Cardinals with two hits a piece while Jack Riggs, Jeb Baumgart, Collin Sexton, and Lucas Browning added one hit each. Sexton scored a team high three runs along with Bryce Jolley with Riggs, Browning, Ty Money, Ty Lane, and Brandon Skaggs each adding one. H. Money and Evan Healy led the team with three RBI’s a piece followed by Lucas Browning with two, Trey Simmons one and Collin Sexton one.
Trey Simmons would collect the win on the hill for NCOE as he pitched 3 2/3 inning allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and striking out one. Brandon Skaggs would relieve Simmons to finish the game allowing three runs (none earned) on just two hits and striking out three.
The Fighting Cardinals even their record out at 2-2 and improve to 2-1 in GEC play.
