Six of the ten CWC school board candidates appeared Tuesday night at the WROY Candidates' forum in Carmi on Tuesday, making their case for how they would serve on the school board should they be elected/re-elected. Carmi city council candidates for Ward 4 also appeared to make their case for election. The forum was conducted by JC Tinsley of WRUL/WROY in Carmi.
Ward 4 candidates are incumbent Jim Totten and challenger Lacy Bradshaw, whose father Tracy Nelson also currently sits on the city council in the same ward.
School board candidates not appearing were Jason Edwards, Barb Mitchell and Aaron O'Daniel, all running for four year terms, and Brent Edwards who is running for an open two-year unexpired term. Jason Edwards could not appear because he was working. It is unknown why the others were absent. Making an appearance were candidates Bill Chapman, Nathan Whetstone, Brent Hammell, Minerva Lovell, Kenneth Hargraves, and Tom Scates. Seeking another term, Tom Scates has served on the CWC school board for 32 years, and incumbent Brent Hamell stated he has served on the board since 2012. Nathan Whetstone was appointed last year to finish the term of Andy Acord and is now running for his first elected term.
