The Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Lady Cardinal softball team got their week started by playing host to the Crab Orchard Lady Trojans Tuesday afternoon in a Greater Egyptian Conference match up.
This contest started off with very strong pitching and defense for neither team was able to score a run in the first two innings of play. This scoreless streak came to an end in the third inning when the Lady Trojans struck for the first run of the game to leave the Lady Cardinals trailing 1-0. This lead did not last long when NCOE collected three hits in the bottom of the third inning which led to three runs that allowed the Lady Cardinals to claim the 3-1 lead following three innings of play. Crab Orchard managed to cut the Lady Cardinal lead to just one run when they plated their second run of the game in the top of the fourth inning but NCOE answered back with another three run inning in the bottom of the fourth inning to stretch their advantage to 6-2. This score would stand until the seventh inning when the Lady Trojans came alive again and rallied for three runs to cut the Lady Cardinal lead to just one run. At this time, the NCOE defense and pitching stepped up and cut the rally short as they collected the final out and claimed the 6-5 victory.
Natalie Wilson and Katie Wimer led the Lady Cardinals (8-3 overall 6-0 GEC) with two hits a piece in the game followed by Emma Tauiliili, Madyson Barton, Haleigh Poole, and Erin Wicker with one hit a piece. Wilson and Wicker each collected two RBI’s in the game while Poole was credited with one. Those scoring runs for NCOE were Emma Tauiliili (1), Madyson Barton (1), Natalie Wilson (1), Katie Wimer (1), Erin Wicker (1), and Sarah Wimer (1).
Erin Wicker collected the complete game victory in the circle allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and striking out four.
