In their final regular season game at home, the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Lady Cardinal softball team welcomed Greater Egyptian Conference foe, Gallatin County, to town.
This game got off to a shaky start when the First Lady Hawk reached base with a hit but the Lady Cardinal defense and pitching held their own as they retired the next three batters to hold Gallatin County at bay. NCOE would then answer this threat with a nice threat of their own as they knocked out four hits and plated two runs to take the early lead at 2-0. The Lady Cardinals added to this lead in the second inning as they scored four more runs and again in the third with three more runs. Now leading 9-0, it appeared NCOE was all but ready to claim the short game victory. However, the Lady Hawks wicked extend the game as they scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth while the Lady Cardinals could only score one of their own to maintain the 9-run advantage. A three run seventh inning for the Lady Hawks would narrow the lead to just six runs but the Lady Cardinals shut the rally down before any more damage could be done as they collected the 10-4 victory.
Emma Gwaltney, Madyson Barton, Natalie Wilson, and Shaylyn Mayberry shared hitting honors as all four knocked out three hits a piece to lead the Lady Cardinal offense. Ally Black followed closely with two hits while Haleigh Poole, Rainey Windle, and Madison Cox each added one hit. Wilson and Mayberry were each credited with three RBI’s to top NCOE followed by two from Barton, and one each for Poole and Black. Those scoring runs in the contest were Emma Gwaltney (3), Madyson Barton (2), Sarah Wimer (2), Rainey Windle (2), and Ally Black (1).
Ally Black went the distance for NCOE as she allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits along with fanning 11 Lady Hawk batters.
