The Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Lady Cardinal softball team headed to Carrier Mills Monday afternoon to take on the Lady Wildcats in a Greater Egyptian Conference match up. The Lady Cardinals were well aware that they were in for a battle against Carrier Mills for the first time these two teams met NCOE escaped with a narrow 2-0 victory due to some fine defensive plays from the Lady Wildcats.
History was appearing to repeat itself as the Lady Wildcat defense made some fine plays on the Lady Cardinals during their first at bat. Trailing by one run as the second inning started, NCOE was able to knock out some hits and plate two runs of their own to claim their first lead of the game at 2-1. NCOE would never relinquish this lead as the scored one in the third, two in the fourth, and four in the fifth to stretch their advantage to 9-1. Carrier Mills would threaten in the sixth and seventh but strong pitching shut the Lady Wildcats down allowing NCOE to cruise to the 9-3 victory.
Jenn’na Wurst and Stormy Baker led the hitting for the Lady Cardinals as each knocked out two hits. Others with a hit in the game were Natalie Wilson, Ally Black, Madison Roberson, and Caite Weiss.
Ally Black picked up the complete game victory as she allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out 12 Lady Wildcat batters.
