Thursday, March 7, saw the Eldorado Eagles come to Norris City to meet the Jr. Lady Cards.
The 8th grade team had beaten the Eldorado squad at the Hamilton County Tournament, but did not take them lightly and won 25-8, 25-8. Bree Vollman led with 13 points and Brynn Warren followed with 10. Morgan Bryant had 8, Miah Scroggins 5 and Jerra Barton 12.
Hollan Everett had 8 kills to lead the offense, with Scroggins adding three and Lydia Vinyard 2. One kill each was recorded by Vollman, Barton and Claire Cawthorne. Vollman also had 12 assists and Bryant added 2, Warren and Everett had 1 each.
Defensively, Warren had 4 digs with Bryant and Barton each having 2, and Vollman having one. The Cards are now 15-3.
The 7th grade had a much tougher battle as they struggled in the first set and fell 21-25.
“We knew their 7th grade had won a tournament, so they would be good,” Coach Black said. But the team fought back in the second set to win 25-21 and then took a big lead in the 3rd set to win 15-9.
Lauren Poole led the scoring with 11, followed by Elise Hortin with 10. Mallory Hobbs and Gracie Allen had 4 each, with two each being served by Avery Black and Mallory Fulkerson, and one by Claire Powell.
At the net, Hinsley Everett had 12 kills and Poole had 5. Three kills each were recorded by Black and Fulkerson and one kill from Hortin. Black had 12 assists, Hortin had 6 and Everett one.
Defensively, Black had 7 digs with Hortin and Poole having 4 each, along with Cora Humphrey. Powell had one.
The Cards moved their record to 13-0.
The “C” team also recorded a close win with a 43-36 timed game.
Hobbs had 8 points followed by Cadee Humphrey with 5. Three points each were recorded by Brooklyn Raymer, Mattie McArthy, Briley Poole and Brianna Raney. Olivia Howard had 2. Alexis Rush and Jaleigh Sullivan each had one.
Hobbs and Rush had 2 kills, with McArthy and Poole adding one each. Hobbs, Raymer and Reagan Goebel each had an assist and Poole had two.
Their record is now 6-6-1.
