On Saturday, May 11, the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Boys and Girls Track teams had five members for each squad venture to Herrin to take part in the 2019 SIJHSAA Boys and Girls Class S State Meet at the Herrin Sports Complex.
Conditions started out fairly well for the beginning part of this track meet but once it was time for the events that the Lady Cardinals and Junior Cardinals were taking part in weather played a vital role in which it started raining and continued to rain quite heavily throughout the remainder of the meet.
The first event of the day that would feature NCOE competitors would be that of the 4X100 Meter Relay. This relay team would be made up of Bree Vollman, Lydia Vinyard, Morgan Bryant, and Mack Terrell. This squad would complete the lap with a time of 57.54 which would find them claiming 8th place. This time would be just two seconds shy of the overall state champion time.
Next up would find the Jr. Cardinals taking their turn as Colby Prather, Jaden Simmons, Cain Weaver, and Cord Tucker would represent NCOE in the 4X200 Meter Relay. This relay team would finish the two lap race with a final time of 1:58.22 which left them falling short by seven seconds of receiving a medal.
The Lady Cardinals would then find the same four competitors that ran the 4X100 Meter Relay taking part in the 4X200 Meter Relay. This group would once again make NCOE proud as they completed the two laps with a time of 2:05.29 to finish in 7th place. This time allowed all four competitors to bring home their second medallion of the day.
Bree Vollman stepped outside of the relays for a moment to compete in an individual race. This race being that of the 8th Grade 100M Dash. Vollman would cross the line in 14.40 and come up .23 seconds shy of her third medallion.
Ebany Jolley would also compete on the individual side as well as she took part in the 800M Run. Jolley would run a good race for the Lady Cardinals as she crossed the line in 15th place.
The final event of the day that NCOE participants would compete in would be the 4X400 Meter Relay. This relay team consisted of Cord Tucker, Cain Weaver, Jaden Simmons, and Joel Hortin. Although this team came into the meet with the second best time reported, the conditions took a toll on them for they completed the mile with a time of 4:27.48 which found them 12 seconds shy of bringing home a medallion.
This event concludes the 2019 Jr. NCOE track season.
