On Monday, Feb. 12, the Jr. High Volleyball squads had another home match. This time the Fairfield Lady Mules came to town.
“We knew this would be a tough challenge,” Coach Melton said.
And it truly was a challenge! The first set saw the Cards struggle to pass and run their offense and they fell 19-25. But NCOE settled down and began to control the second set and they won 25-13. In the third set the Cards continued their attack and won 15-9.
“It was an exciting win,” Melton said.
Hallie Roper again led the scoring with 14 points as Erin Wicker added 11. Bree Vollman had six and Kenlee Cole had 3. Hollan Everett and Meagan Healy had 2 apiece.
Offensively, Everett had 5 kills as Roper and Wicker had one each. Vollman ran the offense with 8. Wicker added 2 and Everett one.
Defensively, the Cards were very busy as Vollman led with 6 digs. Wicker followed with 4 digs and Cole had 3. Two digs apiece were recorded by Kirsten Cacia, Everett and Healy and Roper added one. Everett also had four big blocks in the win.
The win moved the 8th grade to 7-0.
The 7th grade also took 3 sets to beat the Lady Mules and they did it much like the 8th grade did. The girls lost the first set 22-25 but they overcame that disappointment in a big way as they won 25-9. In the third set the Cards pulled out a 15-10 win.
“I was glad to see the girls not give up,” Coach Black said.
Brynn Warren led the scoring with 11 points and Morgan Bryant followed with 7. Miah Scroggins had six, as 4 apiece were served by Avery Black, Jerra Barton and Rianna Hickey.
Offensively, Black led with 3 kills. One kill each was recorded by Hickey, Bryant, Scroggins and Warren. Barton had 5 assists in the offense with Warren and Bryant one apiece.
Defensively, Black had 4 digs with Warren having 3 and Hickey one.
The win gave the 7th grade Cards a 4-3 record.
The C-team is now 2-3.
