He was born on June 27, 1933, in Eldorado, Ill., the son of Marcus “Mick” and Ida (Skelton) Hamilton. He married Joan Crouch, daughter of Raymond and Daphne Crouch (both deceased) of Norris City. She survives.
He was a long time and very active member of the Bethalto Church of God. He was on the church council and chairman, teacher, and Royal Ranger commander. In 1995 he and his wife were named the Church of God National Senior Adult Lay Couple of the Year.
Jesse worked for 34 years at the Olin Corporation, mostly in the Brass Mill, as a laborer, expeditor and assistant roller, retiring in January 1996. He loved camping, fishing, yard sales and auctions.
He never met a stranger without starting a conversation with them. He made friends easily and loved to talk with people.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons Jesse Mark of Hazelwood, Mo., Kent of Moro, Ill., and Jerome (Dana) of Peachtree City, Ga.; sisters Bessie Stout of Bethalto, Shirley (Kenny) Watson of Eldorado, and brother Roy (Barbara) Hamilton of Bethalto; grandchildren Kimberly (Rob) Neathery of Wood River, Ill., Andrew (Wilma) Hamilton of Ooltewah, Tenn., Amber (Ty) Haywood of Senoia, Ga.; Jessica Hamilton of Dahlonega, Ga.; Samantha Teacher of Peachtree City and Emily (Myles) Brown of Newman, Ga.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Wanda Nichols and Virginia Mills.
Funeral Services were on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at the Bethalto Church of God and Burial was at the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
