I recently spent $101 to renew the license plates on my vehicle, in order to have the PRIVILEGE to drive that vehicle on Illinois roadway; gotta do that every year.
I recently spent $31.75 to renew my combination hunting and fishing license, in order to have the PRIVILEGE to catch one of God’s fish or harvest one of God’s critters; gotta do that every year.
I recently sent a check for $25 to the IDNR to obtain a firearm deer permit for 2018, in order to have the PRIVILEGE to go deer hunting; gotta do that every year.
I recently spent $11 to renew my Illinois FOID card, in order to have the PRIVILEGE (NOT ‘RIGHT’) to continue to own and possess a firearm and ammunition here in Illinois; gotta do that every 10 years.
I received my FOID renewal just last week. I did it the ‘old fashioned way’ by actually speaking to a live ISP call taker and starting the renewal process that way, rather than going online to do so. The ISP employee, “Joy”, was very pleasant, professional and helpful. I give the ISP credit; it only took 41 days for me to receive my new 10 year FOID card. That is very good considering that Illinois state government usually moves at glacial speed, so my compliments to the ISP.
Any anti-firearm owning, anti -Second Amendment liberal may say that it is NOT FAIR that that those loony, violence loving, mentally deranged gun nuts who bitterly cling to their guns and religion in flyover country in Illinois get by so cheaply for the government to ALLOW them to possess a firearm. If I have to pay $101 every year to drive my electric bubble car on the road in Illinois, (saving the planet by reducing my carbon footprint and fixing ‘climate change’), then those gun nuts should pay the same $101 every year so they can keep their firearms.
If they do not like it, they can move out of Illinois. A bonus there is that there will be more resources available for our steady influx of Illegal immigrants (who by the way can obtain a valid Illinois drivers license), since Illinois is indeed a ‘sanctuary state’ due to the passage last year of the “Trust Act.”
Okay, okay, let’s compromise... increase the FOID application fee to a mere $500 for a 10 year card. That is only $50 per year. If there are 2 million current FOID card holders, that would be a whopping ONE BILLION EXTRA DOLLARS that Illinois politicians would find a way to waste, steal or funnel to their friends and relatives via our current system of ‘pay to play’ politics.
Obviously, the second half of this article has a bit of dry humor and sarcasm within it. Sadly, don’t be surprised if some liberal politician from Chicago or East St. Louis comes up with ideas such as this. They just haven’t figured out a way to do it without causing riots in the streets.
