The Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments in the James R. Rowe, etc., et al. v. Kwame Raoul, (SAFE-T Act case) next week on Tuesday morning, March 14, 2023, at 9 a.m. at the Illinois Supreme Court Building, 200 E. Capitol Ave. in Springfield, IL. The SAFE-T Act came under fire last year with over 64 State's Attorneys filing suit against it. State's Attorney Denton Aud from White County is part of the case. A provision in the Act was set to abolish cash bail on January 1, 2023, but a stay was placed on the implementation of that provision late in December; arrests and bail provisions continue as they were.
The doors at the Supreme Court Building will open at 8 a.m. and seating in the courtroom will be extremely limited and available on a first come, first served basis. An overflow room will be available but total seating capacity is around 80 people.
There is a livestream link available.
