The Honor Flight program is a nationwide network dedicated to helping all veterans who apply for a free trip to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials honoring their service and sacrifice. Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois is an established 501c3 non-profit hub of the Honor Flight network. All expenses for this one day trip are covered by Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois including the flight, ground transportation, meals, and beverages. The trip is provided absolutely free of charge to the veterans. Trained volunteer guardians will provide assistance and accompany our veterans on their flight. Mary Rivera, Shelia Albright (Michael Hillegas-NSDAR)- Jim and Brenda Crouch (Crouch’s Accounting/Norris City Public Library in Norris City are sponsoring an Honor Flight Raffle Basket. 100% of the money raised will go to the Honor Flight of Southern Illinois. All items in the basket have been donated and some of these items are as follows: 36 inch Santa, Christmas Towels, three nice costume rings, cash, lenox giving ball and many more items. The basket values at about $350.
The basket can be seen at the Norris City Library. Money for raffle tickets (one dollar each or 6 for $5.00) or donations can be made at the Norris City Library or Crouch’s Accounting. Make checks to VHFSI, Winner of this basket will be notified (Sat.) Dec 1, 2018. There have been three veterans from Norris City who have flown to Washington on the Honor Flight and some have expressed that this was a very healing trip that provided a kind of closure for them.
